Burbank School of the Ballet participates in Performance Awards annually.

About Performance Awards . . .
Developed by Mignon Furman, the director of the American Academy of Ballet, this rapidly growing program has attracted worldwide participation. Ms. Furman immigrated from South Africa in the late 1980’s and brought with her decades of ballet teaching experience. With her expertise, she developed this unique program to help ballet teachers motivate their young students. Her program is a combination of disciplined techniques, attainable goals, and awards for every accomplishment.

BSB’s Participation in the Program . . .
Burbank School of the Ballet hosts the Performance Awards to give our young dancers the confidence boost needed to succeed. Each student performs specific combinations choreographed by Ms. Furman. Students dance in small groups and each has an opportunity to dance solo. After the performance, every student receives a certificate and a medal. Such recognition of hard work enables students to feel a sense of accomplishment that motivates them not only in dance but in other areas of their lives as well.

Performance Awards helps to build confidence and a positive self-esteem. The guiding features of this program include:

  • A sense of performance
  • Style in movement
  • Enjoyment of the dance
  • Technical accomplishment
  • Burbank School of the Ballet encourages all of its students to participate. We feel that having Performance Awards as part of our curriculum, we can all watch our ballet students grow, set and achieve higher goals.
